The casino

Pickering's floor is large and thoroughly modern — hundreds of tables and slots, a poker room and high-limit areas in a bright, easy-to-navigate room. As one of the region's newest big casinos, it still feels fresh.

Because it draws a Durham and east-GTA crowd rather than tourists, weeknights are calmer and more comfortable than the downtown-adjacent rooms — more elbow room for the same play.

The rooms

The on-site Onyx hotel holds around 270 contemporary rooms and suites, a covered walk from the gaming, the spa and the lounge — a genuine modern four-star rather than a bolt-on.

Midweek, those rooms are the value story: you get a new-build four-star with a casino downstairs for well under the downtown rate, which is the whole reason to point a stay here.

Dining & extras

There are multiple restaurants and bars, a spa and an entertainment lounge with live acts — enough to fill an evening without leaving the building.

None of it carries a downtown mark-up, so a couple can eat, play and see a set without the bill climbing the way it would in the core.

Location & value

Pickering sits in Durham, about thirty-five minutes east of downtown Toronto — close enough for a city-edge night, far enough to feel like a break, with easy parking on arrival.

Add the midweek rates and it is the clearest value in the guide: the newest resort of the bunch at a price the older downtown rooms cannot match.
